.I really love Utada Hikaru's song, Final Distance, (I heard this song first from the PS game, Kingdom Hearts.) I especially love the video since there seems to be a lot of fictional characters and cosplaying going on, and for me, it's just so unique and you don't see videos like that that much (another example is the Spice Girls' "Goodbye my Friend" video hehe)
.That was until I read something about the song history of "Final Distance", formerly titled as, "Distance".
SONG HISTORY: At 10:15 that morning, 37-year-old former janitor Mamoru Takuma entered the school armed with a kitchen knife and began stabbing numerous school children and teachers. He killed eight children, mostly between the ages of seven and eight, and seriously wounded thirteen other children and two teachers. Takuma was later convicted and sentenced to death by hanging. The sentence was carried out on September 14, 2004.
"Distance" originally appeared in the Distance album, and was planned to be released as a single. However, Utada heard of the school stabbing rampage in which 6 year old schoolgirl Rena Yamashita (山下玲奈) had died. Rena had previously won an essay competition; writing about how she wanted to become a singer just like Utada Hikaru. Utada decided to rearrange the song into ballad form, creating the song "Final Distance".
The Japanese Ministry of Education decided to incorporate Hikaru Utada's ballad "Final Distance" in the high school music textbook starting spring semester 2001, which was announced on 8th of April. In order to pass the proposal, they needed 313 points. The proposal was passed with 319 points. They will be targeting high school students in their second year to test the new curriculum. According to the publisher of arts in education, the song was chosen because it is closely familiar with high school students.
.It's kind of sad. As I was looking at the video, I kinda thought that maybe those Angels acting there are probably portraying the children who died because of the murder. O_O Waaaaaaa so sad T__T The video itself is very captivating, don't you agree? ^^
